Religious volunteers have taken to the town centre on Saturday nights, providing assistance to revellers as they spill out of clubs and bars. Dressed in high-visibility jackets, the pastors offer replica clothing a range of services - from helping people find a taxi home to giving bottles of water to people who have over-indulged and flip-flops to women without shoes. Street pastor Graham Ledger said: "So far we feel we have exceeded all expectations. "We have been accepted by people and are already building up a relationship with them. We could not be happier with the way it has got off the ground." The Christian initiative, which was spearheaded by the Ascension Trust, has been rolled out in other towns across the UK and is said to help reduce crime by up to 84 per cent. Participants say the Cheltenham project, which has been running for two weeks, is also replica rolex having a positive impact. "In one case someone smashed a glass outside a pub in the High Street," Graham said. "One of our pastors immediately got out a dustpan and brush to clear up the shards and only moments later three girls ran past without shoes on. "A group outside the pub had watched us clear up the glass, laughing at us mockingly. But after seeing what had happened one of the group came to shake us by the hand and thanked us for what we had done." In another incident the pastors say they found a man passed out in a doorway, in danger of contracting hypothermia. Graham said: "We managed to wake him up and help him to get home. He could have died if we hadn't spotted him." The street pastor scheme has been welcomed by police, civic leaders and churches throughout the town. Inspector Jon Roberts from Gloucestershire police said: "By talking to people and listening to their issues, street pastors can complement the work we do. "Their presence helps in a number of different ways, including the ability to diffuse situations which can otherwise boil over needlessly. Working together we hope to reduce night crime in Cheltenham." embroidered patches Leaders of the project, which comprises churchgoers from across Cheltenham, have plans to expand. They are launching a new training programme in February, which aims to recruit between 60 and 80 new pastors.
